Marchwood Power is committed to achieving the highest standards of health, safety and care for the natural environment in all areas of its operations. The company works closely with government agencies and environmental organisations to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.

The new development will be an 842MW natural gas combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant. Modern facilities of this kind represent advanced generating technology as they offer high operating efficiencies and low emissions. Marchwood Power will operate at c. 58% fuel efficiency, compared to c. 30%-35% efficiencies in the case of the power station which was formerly on the site.

Environment

Following a comprehensive environmental impact assessment of the power plant, Marchwood Power received the necessary consents from national and local government agencies for the plant's construction and operation phases.

As part of the consents process, the environment authorities considered and approved detailed studies undertaken by Marchwood Power covering flora, fauna, landscape, traffic, noise and socioeconomic effects of the project.

A comprehensive environmental management system, covering a range of issues such as noise, emissions and discharges will be put in to place in the new power plant. The plan will comply fully with all conditions of the planning and environmental approvals.

Marchwood Power is fully committed to the very highest levels of health and safety for its employees, contractors and visitors. All people working on the site are required to follow strict guidelines on construction health and safety, and our procedures are regularly reviewed to ensure that our people (employees and contractors) fully adhere to the guidelines
