Press Release: Hampshire’s Marchwood Power Station On Recruitment Drive

Marchwood Power, the £400m gas-fired power station being built on the Marchwood Industrial Park in Hampshire, is seeking to recruit qualified engineers and technicians. Job advertisements have been placed in the local and national press and two open days are being held for interested applicants at the Novotel Hotel in Southampton on October 11th and 13th.

The open days will run from 2.00pm to 8.00pm on October 11th and 10.00am to 4.00pm on October 13th. The Novotel Hotel is located at 1 West Quay Road, Southampton.

Richard Holman, General Manager of Marchwood Power Limited said: “With construction of the new power station plant now safely underway, we are wishing to recruit a team of people by the first quarter of next year so we can be ready for commercial operation in 2009. We plan to employ 45 people at the plant.”

The 840MW Marchwood power station will be one of the UK’s cleanest and most efficient gas-fired stations and will supply power sufficient to meet the combined needs of Southampton, Winchester and the New Forest.

2. The Marchwood plant will be fitted with combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) which generate electricity through the combustion of natural gas. Additional energy is extracted from the exhaust of the gas turbines through the production of high quality steam. This steam is then used to produce additional electricity through a steam turbine.
